Ultrafiltration system from inge watertechnologies AG treats 65,000 m³ water per day in China
China's economy is continuing to post strong growth, with the rapidly developing Asian economy having moved firmly into second place behind the USA. And with the country experiencing a boom in new industrial facilities and plant modernization projects, the demand for clean water looks set to maintain its upward trajectory. Water is the primary raw material for many production processes and is also used for cooling, generating steam, cleaning, and many other applications. As a result, inge watertechnologies AG has seen steadily increasing demand for its cutting-edge ultrafiltration technology used to treat surface water and seawater. The membranes developed by the global technology leader remove suspended solids and microorganisms from water using purely physical means – a process that reaps dividends for customers such as the paper factory operated by Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Ltd. in the Chinese province of Guangdong.Greifenberg, May 25, 2011 – The paper factory run by Lee & Man Paper Manufacturing Ltd. in Huangyong has an annual production capacity of 730,000 tons of corrugated base paper. Producing boiler feed water for steam generation requires 65,000 m³ of ultrafiltrated water a day. The raw water for the factory comes from the Zhujiang River, which – like so many rivers in China – is still heavily contaminated, so before the water can be used in the production process it must be cleaned using ultrafiltration (UF) modules supplied by the German company inge watertechnologies AG. The pores in the module’s patented Multibore membranes are so tiny that they are capable of filtering out suspended solids, microorganisms, and even viruses by purely physical means. High levels of turbidity and organic content really put the quality of UF membranes to the test when it comes to keeping them clean and preventing fouling. Automated backwash processes are used to clean the pores on a regular basis, but highly contaminated raw water can eventually put membranes under enormous strain. This is where the extraordinary robustness of inge's membranes really comes into its own, offering levels of performance that have greatly impressed the company's Chinese customers.
Based on its excellent credentials, inge watertechnologies AG was selected to provide the Huangyong paper factory with a new ultrafiltration system – a major order encompassing 800 dizzer®XL 0.9 MB 60W modules installed in 10 ‘T-Rack vario’ racks.
Bruno Steis, CEO of inge watertechnologies AG, is enthusiastic about the project: “China is becoming one of the key markets for our products. Our technology is being deployed in an increasing number of large-scale projects, ranging from airports and factories to nuclear power plants and municipal wastewater treatment facilities. We have steadily built up a solid reputation in China based on the quality and reliability of our German-made UF membranes and modules – and our Peking Sales Office ensures we pay close attention to our customers' needs.”
