Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche to expound on Nagarjuna's Letter to a King
Thubten Lekshey Ling Nyingma Buddhist Centre, Bangalore (lekshey.org) announced today their plans to conduct a full-day spiritual workshop on "Meaningful Living - A Mahayana Approach" on the 15th of May. This will be based on suhrlekha (Letter to a Friend), a text by Acharya Nagarjuna, one of the founding masters of Mahayana Buddhism. Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche, a distinguished master of Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the senior abbots of Namdroling Monastery, will be giving the discourse. This workshop is intended to benefit a larger audience as its messages are down to earth and applicable is daily life. In the original text, Acharya Nagarjuna explains to his close friend, a king of South India, on how to practice the path of Bodhisattvas while ruling the kingdom. The message is highly applicable in today's world as it teaches how to live a spiritual and ethical life while taking care of worldly responsibilities
Nagarjuna is well known as the expounder of Madhyamaka philosophy and for his crisp and razor-sharp reasoning. The foremost of his works is mula-madhyamaka-karika in which he establishes the philosophy of the Middle Way and shatters all concepts and views. Karika is a highly intellectual work full of logic and reasoning. In contrast, Suhrlekha shows another aspect of Nagarjuna as he turns out to be a spiritual mentor giving practical advice on how to engage with dharma in daily life and how to take small steps at a time towards the final goal of Buddhahood. Here, he speaks on down to earth matters of living, in a simple language. The text is full of practical points and metaphors on how to lead a meaningful life and to be engaged in the path of wisdom and compassion.
Khenchen Tsewang Gyatso Rinpoche (Khenpo Guru) is a distinguished master of the Nyingma tradition of Buddhism, and one of the three Khenchens (senior abbots) overseeing the education at Ngagyur Nyingma Institute of Namdroling Monastery in Bylakkuppe. He received recognition from HH Dalai Lama for his Buddhist scholarship during his studies at the Central University of Higher Tibetan Studies, Saranath. He received all major lineage transmissions of the Nyingma tradition from HH Dudjom Rinpoche, HH Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche and HH Penor Rinpoche. Khen Rinpoche had been teaching extensively in America and Asian countries. He is affectionately known among his disciples as "Khenpo Guru". Khen Rinpoche has a long term relation with Thubten Lekshey Ling and had been one of the most inspiring spiritual guides to the members of this center and is closely guiding many disciples in Bangalore.
The program will be conducted at Thubten Lekshey Ling. The new meditation and teaching hall of Thubten Lekshey Ling was recently opened near MG Road, Bangalore.
