Buddha Purnima Celebration 2011 at Bangalore

05-17-2011 08:17 AM CET | Associations & Organizations

Press release from: THUBTEN LEKSHEY LING (dharma-subhashita)

Thubten Lekshey Ling Nyingma Buddhist Centre is conducting a half-day program at their premises near MG Road to commemorate the birth, awakening and final passing away of Gautama Buddha on the 17th of May. Buddha Purnima falls on the full moon day of the month of May. Three of the most important events in the life of Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, his birth (Buddha Jayanti), his awakening into Buddhahood, and his final passing away, coincide on this auspicious day.

"The relevance of this auspicious day in our lives is to reflect on the qualities of the Buddha, gain inspiration, rekindle these qualities within us and firm up our own journey to awakening", said Phuntsok Namgyal, the spokesperson for Thubten Lekshey Ling. "According to Mahayana Buddhism, all of us have the innate ability to awaken into Buddhahood. Buddha is one who has awakened bodhi to perfection. Guatam Buddha attained this state and showed us the path. He showed that all we have to do is to wake up from confusions and we would be Buddhas. Ignorance is the root cause for all suffering. Through eradicating ignorance, we are not only able to be forever free from suffering, but also able to endlessly and tirelessly benefit all other beings in eradicating their suffering."

"One of the most radical revelations of the Buddha was that self cherishing is at the root of suffering. When we forgo self cherishing and develop compassion and loving kindness for others, it lightens up our hearts and helps us connect back to our original potential. Tremendous ability to benefit oneself and others result from this other cherishing approach", further said Mr. Namgyal. "However, in Buddhism other cherishing does not remain as mere utopian ideology. The Buddha has clearly laid out a path to develop this quality gradually. Thus anybody can train to develop it and find joy in doing so".

As part of the Buddha poornima celebrations at Thubten Lekshey Ling, there will be recitation of sutras, reading from scriptures and meditation. This will help us in reflecting the qualities of Buddha and his teachings, and thus rekindle the same qualities within us on this auspicious day.

The program will be conducted at Thubten Lekshey Ling. The new meditation and teaching hall of Thubten Lekshey Ling was recently opened near MG Road, Bangalore. The address is No 41, 3rd Cross, Ulsoor Road, Bangalore. The program will be from 8:30am to 11:30am on the 157h of May 2011. This program is free of charges and open for all. The organizers can be contacted over email at info@lekshey.org or over phone at 98863-01090.

Thubten Lekshey Ling (www.lekshey.org) is a Nyingma Buddhist Meditation & Study Centre in Bangalore founded by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, the former head of Nyingma school of Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. The centre conducts meditation classes, spiritual discourses and advanced study programs.
