Move over fast-food patty. Consumers are demanding a better burger.
Considered one of the fastest growing segments of the restaurant industry, the “better burger” trend is getting attention from coast to coast. One chain in particular, Texas based MOOYAH Burgers, Fries & Shakes has been dubbed a “brand to watch” by industry insiders. No doubt the industry is watching the company’s latest move: inking contracts in western Oklahoma, eastern Tennessee, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
“We are on pace with development agreements that involve commitments for more than 450 new restaurants over the next decade,” says MOOYAH president Alan Hixon.

Hixon, along with Mooyah founders Rich Hicks and Todd Istre, are experienced restaurateurs who have launched some of the industry’s most popular restaurant chains including Freebirds World Burrito, Tin Star, Boudreaux's Cajun Kitchen and Ojos Locos Sports Cantina.

MOOYAH is no stranger to the spotlight. BurgerBusiness, an online news site dedicated exclusively to the burger business, included MOOYAH in its list of “11 Burger Chains to Watch in 2011.” The brand has twice been named to FastCasual.com’s annual Top 100 Movers & Shakers list, grabbing the #1 title in 2009.

Alan Hixon, the chain’s president who spearheaded the growth of the restaurant from local favorite to blossoming national star, was also recently named one of “10 Restaurant Execs to Watch in 2011” by Nation’s Restaurant News. Eat just one burger and you’ll understand why. They’re made from fresh, 100 percent lean American beef that doesn’t include additives, fillers or preservatives. Buns are shaped, sprinkled with sesame seeds, and baked fresh in house every day.
“MOOYAH is a ‘wow’ brand that is appealing to first time entrepreneurs as well as experienced restaurateurs. And for the hamburger-loving public, MOOYAH gives them a better burger and a better experience which has helped us grow a loyal fan base,” founder Rich Hicks explains.

MOOYAH also appeals to health conscious restaurant-goers with their famous “Iceburger,” a patty wrapped in hand leafed lettuce as well as their popular black bean burger and turkey burger. The restaurant’s famous french-fried potatoes are also fresh-cut in house and cooked in trans fat free oil, and cold milkshakes are hand-spun from real ice cream and come in vanilla, chocolate, strawberry or Oreo flavors.

But the MOOYAH experience isn’t just about the fantastic food. It’s also about the brand’s assertive use of technology to reach its target audience. Most recently, the company launched its Moo Croo loyalty club for the iPhone and Android via the popular Key Ring application where customers can receive digital coupons and learn about current promotions. And, customers can also text their order in advance for pick up.

“Our confidence comes from our customers,” says Hicks. “When our customers say ‘wow’ then we know we are serving the better burger each and every time.”
