Prepare for London's Ulez by scrapping your van with The Scrappers

With London's Ultra Low Emissions Zone (Ulez) scheme about to start, one popular van scrapping firm says now is the time to scrap old vehicles.

He explains: "From that day, the owners of older petrol and diesel vans and cars will need to pay a daily charge of £24 to enter the ultra low emission zone.
"There's bound to be confusion in the run-up to the launch and when it's in place as well.
"But for those who want to avoid the charge and the risk of a £160 fine, then now might be the ideal time to scrap your polluting car or van and be paid to do so."

While Transport for London has unveiled a scrappage scheme, it's aimed at those micro-businesses whose vehicles enter the central London zone regularly to encourage them to switch to a less polluting van or car.

Essentially, all diesel vehicles will need to meet the strict Euro6 emissions, and petrol engines need to meet Euro4, to avoid paying the charge, which is £12.50 per day plus the congestion charge of £11.50, which means motorists with older vehicles will stump up £24 a day to drive into central London.
Also, unlike the congestion charge zone, the Ulez operates 24 hours a day, every day of the week.
Mr Walker said: "As a way to improve air quality, the ultra low emission zone is a good idea but for those owners of older diesel vans and cars particularly, then it could be an expensive undertaking to drive into central London and if they want the best scrap prices for their vehicle, then they should call us on 01204 388488 to find out how much we will pay.
“We will also arrange to pick up their vehicle, wherever it is and regardless of its condition, and pay the best scrap price when doing so."
Drivers and van owners also need to appreciate that the ultra low emission zone will be extended from 25 October 2021 to inner London and the next day, the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) will be introduced London-wide.
