Wolfe’s Neck Farm Wins Eco-Excellence Award

Freeport, Maine – March 22nd, 2011 - Eco-excellence Awards honor organizations and individuals working for the environment and their communities. This year, Wolfe’s Neck Farm received the award for the Freeport Area. Eric Tadlock, Director of Education, accepted the Eco-excellence Award March 22 at an award luncheon in Portland.

EcoMaine, the group that gives out the awards annually, judges nominees on the effectiveness of their “green” efforts and their community impact. They also consider whether or not the nominee increases awareness about sustainability, and the ease of replication of the nominee’s activities.

Wolfe’s Neck Farm shined in every category. The Farm commitment to the natural world goes far beyond “reducing, reusing, and recycling.” The Farm is rethinking how to conserve natural resources, and striving to engage the community in nature and agriculture.

Wolfe’s Neck Farm is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable agriculture, education, and recreation while preserving open space. Set on 626 oceanfront acres, the property includes hiking trails a demonstration barn and gardens, community garden space and an award-winning campground. The Farm offers programs including a summer camp, Do-It-Yourself classes and Community Forum events to educate both children and adults about sustainability.
