Press release from: Davies Turner

Specialist educational equipment for use in a centre for children with mental and physical disabilities was shipped free of charge from the UK to Popesti Leordeni, Romania by leading British freight forwarding company, Davies Turner working with its partner in Romania, Gebrüder Weiss.

The new learning centre stems from an initiative of FARA, the charity which supports orphans and abandoned Romanian children.

Known as the Samuel Centre, it will be jointly managed by FARA and the Romanian Child Protection Department.

"This is a milestone development which has taken two years to set up. It's the first time a British charity has been involved in such a project. Each child will have its own specialist educational programme," Jane Nicholson, FARA's chairman, said.

"In addition, we will be supporting families with children that have disabilities. The staff will share their experience with other specialist needs teachers. FARA greatly appreciates the generosity shown by Davies Turner and its partner, Gebrüder Weiss and is most impressed by the speed with which the goods were transported from our warehouse in the UK to the learning centre in Romania."

Adds Philip Stephenson, joint managing director of Davies Turner: “It was a pleasure to help FARA which is making a dramatic difference to change the lives of vulnerable children, working in partnership with the authorities in a country for which we provide a significant portfolio of freight forwarding and logistics services.

“With Gebrüder Weiss, we are enhancing the freight and logistics services we offer shippers moving cargo between the UK, Ireland, Romania and Bulgaria now that the two countries are part of the European Union.

“In addition to full and part loads on demand, we have boosted our scheduled direct groupage services to offer twice-weekly departures every Tuesday and Friday.

“Since January, we have also offered guaranteed next-day deliveries throughout both countries from arrival at our main distribution hubs in each country.”

Established in the 1870s, Davies Turner & Co is the UK's largest independent freight forwarding and logistics group. The company operates its services through its own exclusive network, offering a high quality service backed by integrated IT systems, financial stability and professional personnel.
