Colombia leads the UNWTO Music Tourism Network

UNWTO and ProColombia launched the Music Tourism Network at ITB Berlin, the foremost business platform for global touristic offers, where Colombia won the prize as the fastest growing destination in the Americas in Germany, with an accumulated 59% in five years.

Berlin, March 11. The Deputy Minister of Tourism of Colombia, Juan Pablo Franky, and the director of UNWTO Affiliated Members, Ion Vilcu, launched on Thursday the UNWTO Music Tourism Network at the Colombian booth at ITB, the international tourism fair that took place in Berlin until last Sunday.
The UNWTO Music Tourism Network, in cooperation with ProColombia, is a way to harness the potential of music and create a platform for music destinations to share best practices and exchange knowledge. The Music Tourism Network platform is open to institutions and companies in the tourism and music sectors, in the categories of affiliated members partner and non-affiliate member partner.
During the launch, the Vice President of Tourism of ProColombia, Julian Guerrero Orozco, recalled that this network emerged "from the White Paper that UNWTO, ProColombia and Sound Diplomacy published in November, in which for the first time it studies the impact of the music offer on the tourism industry." The white paper, entitled 'Music is the new gastronomy' is available for free download on Colombia.Travel website.
CMO of Sound Diplomacy, Katja Hermes, and the Colombian-German singer, Larsito, also joined the launch. "I cannot find a better way to connect people with my Colombian roots, with my father's land, that with music and from my work in Germany, they have gotten the joy and the flavor that we have there", Larsito said.
According to the UNWTO, "music has been relatively unexplored in the tourism context. By including music in itineraries and trips, it is possible to drive greater revenue across the tourism sector and it is an excellent opportunity for destinations to differentiate themselves".
The Colombian delegation at ITB was headed by the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, José Manuel Restrepo, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Juan Pablo Franky, the Ambassador of Colombia in Germany, Hans-Peter Knudsen and the Vice President of Tourism of ProColombia, Julian Guerrero Orozco.
