Colombia shows its powerful offer at the Mobile World Congress 2019
Medellín has just been recognized as the first Latin American center for the fourth industrial revolution starting during 2019 wit
the country as a business and IT services hub for the world.
Colombia will display a sample of its powerful orange economy offer, which includes the creative industries, at the next Mobile World Congress (MWC), taking place in Barcelona from February 25 to 28.
A delegation supported by ProColombia is comprised of 25 companies and two representatives of ANDI and ACDECC – National Business Association of Colombia and Colombian Association of Contact Centers and BPO. The country will be present as well at 4YFN venue with an additional delegation of 7 startups.
Colombia is positioning itself internationally as a benchmark for the orange color. The world of entrepreneurship, technology, and creative industries now account for about 3% of the GDP of the Latin American country, that is three times what coffee contributes and almost 1.5 times what mining contributes. Medellín has just been recognized as the first Latin American center for the fourth industrial revolution starting during 2019 with the aim of promoting new digital technologies.
In Colombia there are more than 6,000 companies within the software and IT services industry that generate more than 109,000 jobs.
The total exports of the 4.0 Industries (BPO, Software, Health, Audiovisual and digital content, Graphic Communication and Editorial) amounted US $ 407.5 million in 2018, representing an increase of 33% over the same period of the previous year.
The largest buyers of these Colombian services were the United States, which acquired 43.6% of total exports, with US $ 177.7 million, in cities such as San Francisco, Miami, Los Angeles, Washington DC, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Dallas and Chicago.
As per regional blocks, the Caribbean (US $ 69.9 million), Mercosur (US $ 52.8 million), the Andean Community of Nations (US $ 37.4 million) and Europe (US $ 27.5 million). On the latter, Juliana Villegas said that "4.0 Industries ranked as the second export chain in the country to Europe, behind agroindustry products".
