Group Buy Feature Gives Facebook Stores Marketing Edge

01-24-2011 05:30 PM CET | Advertising, Media Consulting, Marketing Research

Press release from: Zibaba Ltd

After announcing the implementation of a social affiliate program to compliment their Facebook storefront solution for retail businesses, Israeli startup Zibaba is now adding a Group Buy feature enabling store owners to attract large groups of shoppers for items on offer at discounted rates.

“People like discounts and stores like to attract large numbers of customers, so it really is the next logical step in the strategic development of the Zibaba storefront.” Ronen Shlomo, CEO of Zibaba, stated.

The group buy feature will allow store owners of Facebook storefronts, powered by Zibaba, the ability to select individual items to promote. The store owner specifies the amount of discount and the number of people required in order to activate and receive the group discount.

Ronen continued, “The trend in the market place right now is the guiding light in our development efforts. Group buy is becoming increasingly popular and adding the feature to a Facebook store makes sense just due to the pure nature of how Facebook operates. Running a group buy within a store on a social network gives merchants the opportunity to increase revenue, engage their fan base and retain those customers loyal to their brand.”

“First we launched the storefront at the beginning of December. Despite a low key marketing strategy, stores came to us to set up their Facebook storefront. Before we knew it, we reached around a critical mass of stores with very little effort, despite the usual business slowdown around the holiday season,” said Michael Katz, VP Business Development and Investor Relations. “We understand that this is a super hot space right now and packed with fierce competition to gain an early stake in market share.”

But how is Zibaba different from their competitors? Katz continued “By implementing marketing tools such as an affiliate program and now the Group Buy feature we feel that we’re pulling away from the rest of the pack and taking the lead with the tools that will assist stores to increase sales. There has been a lot of speculation in the press regarding Facebook and e-commerce, but we’ve already seen stores setting up and instantly generating sales through their Facebook store. This isn’t a fad, this is the future.”
