WELTEC BIOPOWER Employs Microturbines from Greenvironment at Barsikow Biogas Park

Press release from: WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH

/ PR Agency: PRSchulz
In January, WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH from Vechta, world market leader in the production of biogas plants from stainless steel, ordered the first microturbine CHP plant from Greenvironment GmbH for the biogas park of 24,000 square meters in Barsikow, Brandenburg, Germany. From the summer of 2011, the technology will be used to produce an annual volume of about 8,4 million standard cubic meters of biogas and 3 million standard cubic meters of biomethane on the basis of the input substances maize, whole plant silage, and dry chicken manure.

The CHP plant with a CR600 microturbine and remote monitoring system will be combined with the biogas processing plant. The thermal energy contained in the exhaust flow of the microturbine will be used as process heat for the biogas processing plant. The processing will take place in the form of chemical treatment (amine treatment). The objective is to achieve self-sufficient heat supply of the processing plant by means of a heat-controlled CHP plant with integrated microturbines. The electrical energy will be fed into the grid of the local energy supplier. The quantity corresponds to an electrical output of 2.2 MW.

„When processing biomethane, the process energy, i.e. the water, must have a temperature of 140°C. In this context, the high thermal efficiency of microturbines provides an important advantage that helps to substantially increase the overall efficiency of biomethane production“, says Robert Tholen, Head of Technology at WELTEC BIOPOWER.

Other advantages include the compact design and the modular structure of the package, which can be expanded whenever needed. „Greenvironment quickly elaborated solution proposals, all of which enabled a good connection to the existing biogas processing plant“, says Robert Tholen, explaining the decision in favour of the Berlin-based technology specialist. WELTEC BIOPOWER and Greenvironment will continue to cooperate in the field of technology.

In its capacity as general contractor, WELTEC BIOPOWER is responsible for the overall planning, turnkey setup including the infrastructure, approval planning, production, and installation, as well as the operational launch and subsequent biological supervision of the biogas park in Barsikow.

In 2011, WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH, a leading provider of biogas plants, celebrates its 10th anniversary. Based on the modern approach of experienced engineers, the company from Vechta, Lower Saxony, with its staff of close to 70, offers complete biogas plants from one source.

One of the main strengths of the medium-sized enterprise is the ability to deliver individual and flexible solutions – from compact plants to large computer-controlled plants in the megawatt range, waste recycling plants, and biogas parks with gas processing technology.
The Könnern industrial zone between Magdeburg and Halle, Germany, is home to one of the world‘s largest biogas parks, built by WELTEC BIOPOWER. In its capacity as general contractor, WELTEC was responsible for the overall project planning, turnkey setup including the infrastructure, approval planning, production, and installation, as well as the operational launch and comprehensive biological supervision of the park. The concept comprises the processing (amine treatment) and feed-in of biomethane into the natural gas grid. Another WELTEC biogas park in Barsikow, Brandenburg, has been generating up to 4.3 million standard cubic meter a year since the beginning of 2010, and in Arneburg, Saxony-Anhalt, one of Europe‘s largest biogas parks will supply the equivalent of 7,000 homes with power and heat.

The plants have a modular structure. WELTEC BIOPOWER uses only proven system components and develops most of the technologies along the entire value chain internally: fermenter technology, mixing technology, control technology, hygienisation systems, and digestate processing solutions originate from the company.

As the hydrogen sulphide and ammonia compounds contained in biogas corrode unprotected parts, WELTEC builds the fermenters from stainless steel. This ensures a long useful life of the plant. The great manufacturing depth also guarantees a consistently high standard regardless of the location and ensures an export rate that is far above the industry average.
Meanwhile, the company‘s quality is renowned worldwide. In 2009, a Chinese investor engaged WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH for the setup of a biogas plant. The plant with an output of 370 kWel is China‘s first biogas plant that meets German quality standards.

In 2008, WELTEC BIOPOWER GmbH became one of the first providers of complete biogas plants to be certified by TÜV Rheinland according to DIN EN ISO 14001:2004 and the quality management standard DIN EN ISO 9001:2001. In 2010, the plants of WELTEC received the „DLG FokusTest“ certification from the German Agricultural Association (DLG) in recognition of their excellent biogas yield.

WELTEC BIOPOWER Develops Innovative Analysis Procedure for Biogas Substrates
Research Project: Tracking Down Inhibitors Together with renowned partners, the biological department of biogas specialist WELTEC BIOPOWER in Vechta, Germany, is developing a quick test for identifying inhibitors in biogas substrates. Input mass may contain substances that prevent efficient biogas production. For example, a small amount of mould is sufficient to cause such an adverse effect in silage. Ammonium, copper, zinc, drugs and disinfectants are often identified as inhibitors in slurry
French Hospital Warms Up to Biogas Alliance
WELTEC Builds another Plant with Heat Concept in France Alliances generate benefits for all involved – as in the case of the French heat alliance between an agricultural biogas plant and a psychiatric hospital. The "Méthavigne" project merits a second glance, especially because society and the environment also benefit from this union of a public institution and a private company. Together with the partner Domaix Energie, the German manufacturer WELTEC BIOPOWER
