XNA 4.0 Game Development Essentials

XNA 4.0 Game Development by Example: Beginner's Guide is a new book from Packt that will help readers to create their own exciting games with Microsoft XNA 4.0. Written by Kurt Jaegers, this book will assist readers to expand their finished games, introduce them to many fun examples and programming concepts along with implementation of XNA 4, while maintaining its focus entirely on developing games with the free version of XNA.

Microsoft XNA is a set of tools with a managed runtime environment, which currently encompass Microsoft's entire Game Development Section, including the standard Xbox Development Kit and XNA Game Studio. XNA attempts to free game developers from writing repetitive boilerplate code and brings different aspects of the game production into a single system.

XNA 4.0 Game Development by Example: Beginner's Guide will enable users to easily create video games and to bring their creations to life on Windows, the Xbox 360, the Zune, the Windows Phone platforms. The book starts off with the basics of drawing images to the screen and then goes on to explain advanced features of XNA such as sprite animation, addition of sound effects, tile-based maps, and interactive map editors.

Using this book, developers will learn to install the Microsoft XNA Framework, and to build XNA Game projects and associated XNA Content projects. This practical guide will support users to implement sound effects, collisions, and particle-based explosions by building a space shooter inside a chaotic asteroid field. Furthermore, this book will enable users to modify their creations for the Xbox 360 platform and deploy their games to the console.

A practical beginner's guide with a fast-paced but friendly and engaging approach towards game development, this step-by-step tutorial is ideal for novice game developers, who wish to take a shot at creating games for the Microsoft Windows platform with the XNA Framework. The book is out now and available from Packt. For more information, please visit: www.packtpub.com/xna-4-0-game-development-by-example-beginners-guide/book
