Graduate Unemployment at a 17-Year High, But FDM Can Offer

International IT services provider, FDM Group, promise to tackle the IT skills shortage, bridging the gap between university and employment for graduates.

There is a bigger demand than ever for IT professionals and there will never be a shortage of jobs in the sector due to the increasingly important role it plays in society. However, as IT is in constant development to new technological trends, graduates often find themselves leaving university with the suitable qualifications but lacking the technical skills and commercial expertise necessary to find their desirable careers.

More than one in six IT graduates who left university in the summer of 2009 were still unemployed six months later, with graduate unemployment at its highest level for 17 years according to the Higher Education Careers Service Unit.

The new figures show more young people are opting to stay in full-time education after graduating rather than looking for a job. Companies such as FDM Group provide graduates with the essential combination of postgraduate training and commercial expertise, tackling the IT skills shortage by bridging the gap between university and employment.

FDM’s award-winning graduate Academy has launched the IT careers of over 2000 individuals to date as the ‘Best Technical Graduate Recruiter’ according to the National Graduate Recruitment Awards. FDM train graduates in the latest commercial technologies and place them onsite with some of the world’s largest financial, media, insurance, retail and telecommunication companies such as HSBC, RBS, UBS, IPC Media and BSkyB.

Recruiting 500 graduates in 2010, FDM plan to dramatically increase its intake in 2011, remaining the largest IT graduate employer in the UK and creating more opportunities for graduates looking to pursue a career in the IT sector.
