The World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT becomes member of the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts.
The ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in the Performing Arts is a joint initiative of UNESCO and ITI together with higher education and research institutions. Its main focus is higher education in the performing arts – drama, theatre, dance, music theatre, playwriting and all related performing arts disciplines. In the context of the 2018 Conference and Second General Assembly of the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in Performing Arts in Shanghai, the Network expanded from 20 to over 40 institutions, including the World Theatre Training Institute AKT-ZENT, research centre of the International Theatre Institute.
WTTI’s programme director Christine Schmalor was elected board-member of the Network.
Dr. Jurij Alschitz introduced as the conference’s keynote speaker the idea of a holistic theatre and pointed out necessary fundamental changes in theatre education.
In light of the Network’s objectives, WTTI undertakes its own projects which were presented at the Assembly.
Christine Schmalor introduced the WTTI’s Hybrid Theatre Training Platform; a forum for research and innovation of theatre training and practice, combining online studies with practical seminars and laboratories. Its scientific focus lies in the development of the individual’s self-education which will play a major role in the future development of our societies.
With over 20 years’ experience in advanced training for professional actors, directors and theatre teachers, the World Theatre Training Institute also proposed the MA Programme “Teaching Professional Theatre Practice” which is ready to be implemented after two successful runs in Mexico and Europe.
This programme was met with interest especially among academies from Latin America, Africa and Asia.
As a result of the 2018 Conference and Second General Assembly of the ITI/UNESCO Network for Higher Education in Performing Arts in Shanghai the World Theatre Training Institute has signed a bilateral framework agreement with Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography (Armenia) and is designing further collaborative programmes for the network.
