CONTESA Charity to Fund Feeding Programme at Chainda, Zambia
CONTESA Charity - Supporting AIDS orphans in Zambia
Since the Word Food Programme withdrew its support from Chainda Centre in early 2008 various donors have taken on the responsibility of supporting this feeding programme. CONTESA previously supported this project from January 2008 to September 2008.
With effect from 1st June 2010, the feeding programme which provides a daily meal (7 days a week) for approximately 200 disadvantaged and vulnerable children who have been orphaned due to the Aids epidemic in Zambia will be jointly supported and funded with Mr and Mrs Bart Moman from Holland. CONTESA’s support to this feeding programme will be reviewed in December 2010.
Esnat Avon, the Founder of CONTESA explains why Chainda Feeding Programme is a project worth funding “CONTESA was set up to alleviate the suffering of orphans and disadvantaged children in Zambia through the provision of basic shelter, food and primary education regardless of their background , religion or race and this feeding programme epitomises CONTESA”. She added “We will continue to support Chainda Feeding Programme with the support and assistance of Mr and Mrs Moman and together we will continue to support these disadvantaged children”’.
CONTESA is a UK registered charity (1109311) set up in 2005 by Esnat Avon and her husband Roger. Esnat, was born and raised in Zambia but now lives in the UK. She now devotes much of her time to raising funds for CONTESA and creating awareness of the plight of AIDS orphans and disadvantaged children in one of the sub-Saharan countries most devastated by the AIDS epidemic, Zambia. She manages the charity on a daily basis from her home in St. Leonards, Ringwood. One of CONTESA’s pledges is that every penny donated goes directly to the support of the children.
