Altia CEO Discusses Graphical Code Generators on Electronic Design
In his commentary, Juran acknowledges the iPhone as the industrial impetus that has placed the graphical user interface (GUI) at the top of the list of new product design considerations. Next generation products — whether you’re designing cars or a treadmill — must be delivered with an exciting and intuitive interface to gain the interest of consumers.
Juran presents two possible scenarios for design teams who have set out to create their next-generation product interface. The first involves design teams who have been tasked to deliver a “user interface-lift” that will run on an existing hardware platform. The second involves a brand new GUI, conceptualized, researched and tested by Marketing. Design teams must find a budget-friendly processor that provides the best possible performance for this revolutionary new human machine interface (HMI).
In both cases, Juran explains how a Graphical Code Generator is the key to getting the best GUI onto the best-performing, lowest cost hardware. "By generating code for different HMIs and deploying them with your pre-selected hardware, you can get a glimpse into your product’s successful future. When you work from a marketing-defined HMI, you can quickly assess how much of a platform is needed, and then use your magic and expertise to guide compromise and development that result in an exciting new product that is priced right."
