Dalai Lama becomes Patron for Stories of Faith Project

Dublin, 23.11.06 (sof) The Dalai Lama, the Ambassador of Peace, has taken over the patronage over the international media project “Stories of Faith“. His Holiness supports “Stories of Faith”, which “which will bring out a variety of films and books about the five major world religions in order to promote mutual tolerance amongst the different world religions”.
The project was initiated by German film producers, who have developed the concept of five large-format feature films on Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist and Hinduist encounters as well as a full length feature film. The 100 million Dollar project, which will be produced in Ireland, goes out to alleviate anxieties of foreign religions and cultures.

Tenzin Gyatso, born in 1935 was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1989 as the highest representative of the Tibetan exile government for his tireless efforts to find solutions to the Tibet problem. He has established a democratic government in his Dharamsala (India) exile and tries to relieve the distress of all Tibetans inside and outside of Tibet. During a national uprising of the Tibetans against the Chinese occupation, during which 90,000 Tibetans lost their lives, the Dalai Lama fled in 1959.

Since then he has become an Ambassador of Peace, always emphasizing that there must be “harmony and respect amongst the different religions and their practitioners”. He further stresses that “We must distinguish between belief and respect. Belief refers to total faith, which you must have in your own religion. At the same time you should have respect for all other religions…” He underlines that a project promoting tolerance between young people should be accomplished.
