Amy Fehn Presents on "Medicaid Integrity" Program at HFMA Winter Meeting
ROYAL OAK, Mich.—January 29, 2010 – Amy Fehn, an attorney with Wachler & Associates, P.C., gave a presentation on the Medicaid Integrity Program, the first federal program to perform audits of Medicaid providers, Jan. 29, 2010, at the Healthcare Financial Management Association Winter Meeting in Johnston, Iowa. She presented information regarding the structure of the program including: (1) Information on the Medicaid Integrity Contractor (MIC) for the state of Iowa; (2) The Medicaid appeals process in Iowa; (3) Expected timeline for enforcement nationally and in Iowa; and (4) Ways in which providers can prepare for Medicaid Integrity Contractors including successful appeals strategies.Fehn has authored and co-authored numerous articles on health care issues and has spoken on HIPAA and third party payor appeals to various local and national organizations. She and principal of the firm, Andrew B. Wachler, recently co-authored an article on the Medicaid Integrity Program for the ABA’s Health Lawyer publication. She is also the co-author of a chapter on RACs which will be published in the 2010 Health Law Handbook, published by West Thomson.
Fehn has represented physicians and health care organizations in health care regulatory and corporate matters, as well as third party payer appeals, for the past 11 years. Prior to graduating from law school, she worked as a registered nurse in the coronary care unit, and later in the hospital’s office of general counsel.
