Press release from: Imperato-Brooks 2008

August 9, 2006 – West Palm Beach, FL – Today Daniel Imperato, Independent 2008 presidential candidate commended U.S. actions to impose sanctions against seven firms from Russia, India, North Korea and India, for selling restricted items and weapons to Iran.

Imperato stated that, "In January, I called on our administration to deploy a system that would analyze armaments transfers and their origin. I also called on the U.S. to more aggressively investigate bank accounts related to companies and individuals dealing such weapons. The recent events in Lebanon have demonstrated again that our intelligence gathering system was taken by surprise by the amount of armaments and rockets at Hezbollah's disposal. Unfortunately, the intelligence community has barely scratched the surface in uncovering the financial networks that support these arms transfers."
.
The U.S. State Department said it imposed the sanctions after Washington received information the companies had transferred materials to Iran that could contribute to the development of weapons of mass destruction or missiles.

The sanctions took effect on July 28 and will be in place at least until July 28, 2008. Imperato issued a press release a press release on January 25, 2006, six months prior to the U.S. taking stronger action to curtail weapons transfers to terrorists groups.

Imperato concluded his remarks by saying "The analysis contained in my January 25th press release has been on target. I thank the administration for taking action regarding this vital security matter, and I look forward to addressing these issues more fully during the course of the campaign." The Imperato-Brooks 2008 campaign has made preventing the spread of destabilizing weapons systems and nuclear technology the cornerstone of its national security agenda.
