Protectimus to deliver one-time passwords through Facebook, Telegram and Viber
Protectimus Solutions LLP, the leading provider of two-factor authentication solutions, has announced the release of a new channel for delivering one-time passwords: ProtectimusBot chatbots for Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and Viber. This technology is already being successfully tested by the company's existing clients. In March 2018, Protectimus Solutions LLP began testing a new channel for providing one-time passwords to end-users: the Facebook Messenger, Telegram and Viber messaging applications. This method for receiving one-time passwords enables the company's clients to completely do away with outdated SMS authentication technology in favor of more modern, convenient and secure solutions.
"We had a serious task in front of us: we needed to find a solution to deliver one-time passwords that would be no less convenient than SMS messages, while also cutting costs for clients and tackling today's IT security challenges. We found such solution in the form of chatbots for popular messaging applications. It's easy to use, because practically everybody uses them today. Users don't need to install any extra applications or set up hardware OTP tokens in order to configure two-factor authentication. It's more secure, thanks to reliable message encryption algorithms used in messaging applications, and the ability to protect access to the application itself with a strong password or biometrics. And, of course, it's very convenient for our users, who receive huge bills every month from their SMS providers. With the Protectimus chatbots, you can receive not only one-time passwords, but also other system messages, allowing our clients to avoid the costs associated with SMS messaging," explains Denys Shokotko, the Head of R&D at Protectimus.
Currently, ProtectimusBot is available for Telegram, Facebook Messenger, and Viber. It can deliver one-time passwords generated with HOTP or TOTP algorithms, as well as any other notifications. Besides, chatbots support CWYS (Confirm What You See) data-signing functionality — generating one-time passwords based on transaction or session data.
But Protectimus doesn't plan to stop here. The list of supported messaging applications will be constantly expanded. The chatbots' communicative skills and intelligence are also slated to be improved.
