Press release from: Polaris Networks

San Jose, California, Mar 21, 2018 – Polaris Networks, a leading provider of 4G and 5G networks protocol software, is collaborating with the Open Networking Foundation (ONF) on the M-CORD project which aims to transform the mobile network by disaggregating and virtualizing cellular network functions as well as operator specific services. Built on the CORD (Central Office Re-architected as a Datacenter) platform, M-CORD lays the foundation for 5G networks and services through support for disaggregated and virtualized evolved packet core, end-to-end slicing from RAN to EPC, mobile edge computing, and a programmable radio access network.
“As we increasingly focus on 5G Networks and ensure that our products and solutions help service providers deliver better 5G connectivity to end users, this collaboration with ONF on the M-CORD project is a significant milestone for Polaris Networks” – said Mr. Buddhadeb Biswas, CEO, Polaris. “We are certain that together we can build a more robust 5G mobility infrastructure and develop new use cases for 5G services”, he went on to add. As a CORD member and collaborator, Polaris receives access to community resources and will influence the direction of ONF’s efforts through open source contributions by merging in features and capabilities beneficial to the entire community.
The CORD platform combines NFV, SDN, and the elasticity of commodity clouds to bring datacenter economics and cloud agility to the Telco Central Office. CORD lets the operator manage their Central Offices using declarative modeling languages for agile, real-time configuration of new customer services. Several multinational Telecom Service Providers – AT&T, NTT Group, China Unicom, to name a few- are already supporting CORD. The M-CORD project aims to bridge the gap between the current infrastructure for mobile networks and the infrastructure required to enable 5G Networks in the near future.
