BOD Group Take Over JakeBox CD/DVD Business

In 2004, Swedish packaging design company JakeBox launched their innovative, award-winning and highly acclaimed packaging concept for CD and DVD. The customers have ranged from music acts like Rolling Stones and Simple Minds, via car brands as Porsche, Volvo and Lamborghini, to others, like Sony Playstation, Philips and the Swedish Government.
Starting February 2018, this entire business will be managed by BOD Group (BOD).

After some months of mutual evaluation, JakeBox AB and BOD Group (BOD) have signed an exclusive license for the rights to the JakeBox CD & DVD packaging concept. All production and sales throughout Europe ahead will be managed by BOD in Lithuania.

Considering the decline of the disc market, one can wonder why anyone would invest in an alternative package concept. But product manager Kristina Kepsnyte-Bugaitiene at BOD is confident:
“The decline of the industry isn’t as bad as everybody thinks. There are still billions of discs made annually. But since it is declining, the need to distinguish yourself is even bigger, which makes a unique package like JakeBox extremely appreciated. Adding it to our product line will give us an extra edge as a supplier.”
Does that mean you can only get a JakeBox if you buy the disc from BOD?
“Not at all. JakeBox already has wide reseller network throughout Europe, consisting of several replicators and duplicators, and we will cooperate with them, just as JakeBox AB has done before.”

So if JakeBox AB, that developed the JakeBox, no longer will sell CD/DVD JakeBoxes, what will you do?
“Our main focus in recent years has been on the gift card market”, says CEO Jakob Skarin of JakeBox AB. “We will continue with this and also move in on a few other market segments, for example chocolate, jewellery, cosmetics and perfume. JakeBox AB is mainly a design and development company, our original intention was to be only that, and not so much a continuous supplier of packages. But through the years we have built up a production organization that allows us to be that too.”

The JakeBox CD/DVD packaging concept was developed, patented and launched 2004 by Swedish Design Company JakeBox AB, founded the same year by inventor/designer Jakob Skarin.
Over the last few years, along with the decline of the disc industry, the company has shifted its focus toward the gift card industry and other areas for bespoke and innovative packaging.
The first product in this line, developed on demand from gift card suppliers, is the "Ejector”, a pop up structure similar to the CD JakeBox, where the gift card rotates out of the package in a spectacular way when it is opened.
