Thinky NP-100 Nano Pulveriser from Intertronics

Thinky NP-100 Nano Pulveriser from Intertronics

The mixing together of liquids, pastes, powders and fillers is a critical process in many sectors, not least in pharmaceutical and cosmetics R&D and production. Getting a fully homogenous bubble-free mix of materials, especially those with different forms or viscosities, is of paramount concern. Speed and repeatability of the process will aid productivity and deliver consistent quality.

On the Intertronics Making Pharmaceuticals stand no. 108 (24-25th April 2018 at Ricoh Arena, Coventry), the range of Thinky mixers on show offers non-invasive mixing in a repeatable controlled planetary process which works effectively with quantities of 10ml on up. Mixers such as the Thinky ARE-250 compact desktop unit or the freestanding Thinky ARV-10KTWIN can mix different fluid viscosities and powders into liquids without the inclusion of air. Some of the Thinky models have integral vacuum removing micro-bubbles from the mix. The machines give repeatable, consistent, homogeneous results for laboratory or production use.

The newly launched Thinky ARM-310 entry-level mixer will be on display – starting at under £5,000 this offers a superior alternative to manual mixing with simple operation and consistent results in a package that sits easily on the laboratory bench-top.

Nanoparticles are being developed for a range of healthcare product applications including drug delivery, controlled release systems, diagnostics and medical devices. Thinky nanotechnology includes the Thinky NP-100 Nano Pulveriser for breaking up particles using impact fragmentation, taking larger particles down to nano-size, and the Thinky PR-1 Nanoparticle Dispersion Machine for nanoparticle dispersion and deagglomeration of CNT, graphene and other 2D nanomaterials.

Precision dosing equipment on the Intertronics stand will be addressed with the preeflow volumetric pump technology, delivering precisely repeatable quantities into the manufacturing process or into vials and other packaging containers under manual or automated control. The preeflow eco-PEN system uses a progressive cavity pump principle which doses and dispenses a wide range of material viscosities with no stress to the material, and with full control. They can be integrated into semi-automated and fully automated systems with the smallest unit offering a minimum dose from 0.001 ml (1μl) and the largest unit providing a maximum flow rate of 32 ml/min.

Tidy workplace and precise dispensing results from preeflow® eco-PEN450 for Franklin Electric
Tidy workplace and precise dispensing results from preeflow® eco-PEN450 for Fra …
Franklin Electric, a leading international manufacturer of water and fuel pumps, faced a difficult challenge when tasked with optimising dispensing processes at their Czech production site. The objective was to reduce the waste of UV curing material during the application process. Dispensing equipment previously used by Franklin Electric had been very inaccurate, creating unnecessary waste, high material costs and additional cleaning efforts. After completing preliminary tests, the team at Franklin Electric were

WACKER ELASTOSIL® N9111 from Intertronics is a tin-free single part RTV silicone adhesive sealant, with a neutral cure chemistry, producing a non-corrosive seal that does not inhibit other materials such as platinum cure silicones. This, along with its UL94 V-0 rating, makes it a strong candidate for electronics manufacturing, especially for gap filling, component ruggedisation, and form-in-place gasketing. It is stocked in depth at Intertronics for next-day delivery. Elastosil N9111 is

The automobile manufacturing industry places high demands on suppliers with regard to process reliability, quality and efficiency. To meet these challenges, a preeflow customer had to optimise his application of a two-part sealant to make a form-in-place (FIP) gasket. In his previous process, the dispensed sealant bead exceeded the tolerance limits at the point where the gasket loop completed and the sealant overlapped itself. In addition, a key process variable

Automated application of adhesives, potting compounds or encapsulants, sealants, FIP gaskets, temporary masking, lubricants, or other liquids, fluids or pastes provides productivity benefits over manual application, including consistency, speed and accuracy. As selection of a dispensing robot is sometimes a daunting task, Intertronics, a specialist adhesives and dispensing company, has compiled a short piece of guidance on how to specify a dispensing robot. The full guidance can be found on

In the impressive world of nanotechnology, getting to even smaller scale is increasingly important. For example, pharmaceutical companies who want their drugs to be faster acting on patients are considering nanoparticle formulation to improve the dissolution rate and solubility of their compounds. The Thinky NP-100 Nano Pulveriser breaks up particles using impact fragmentation, taking larger particles down to nano-size. In a controlled process taking only minutes, particles in the 10

Intertronics introduce new nanoparticle deagglomeration technology
The tendency for some nanoparticles to agglomerate or cluster into denser masses can lead to homogeneity and performance issues in their subsequent use. Existing methodologies to de-agglomerate them do not always produce uniform results, or can be invasive and wasteful. The Thinky PR-1 Nanoparticle Dispersion Machine is a desktop unit which can disperse carbon nanotubes (CNT), graphene and other 2D nanomaterials, within a closed container. The dispersion is very even and
Mixing silicones for facial and other prosthetics
The manufacture of a medical prosthetic device for a patient’s face or similar area is a highly skilled job; each one is unique, and needs to be handled with great sensitivity, as both functional and cosmetic considerations are involved. It may require careful mixing and colour matching of a silicone moulding compound, with no air entrapment, to ensure appearance and consistency of structure.
