Precisely accurate - Parachute World Cup Series in Zell am See (Organizer's press release)
The series consists of six competitions taking place in Rijeka/HR, Bled/SLO, Altenstadt/D, Belluno/IT, Zell am See/A, and Locarno/CH and makes highest demands on the athletes in terms of precision. From a jump altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level, the participants have to hit a target of a diameter of merely two centimetres. The distance from the 'dead centre' is measured electronically. The athlete with the minimum difference after eight jumps is proclaimed winner. As experience teaches, the total distance does not sum up to more than two to four centimetres.
Two airplanes of the Austrian Armed Forces and one of the event's organizer Flying Bull, all three of them type 'Pilatus Porter PC-6', take the athletes of 38 teams - among them seven teams from Austria - to an altitude of 1,000 metres above sea level. Every four minutes one team consisting of five members gets off. The teams go through a maximum of eight and a minimum of four rounds. Every jump has an influence on the overall ranking.
'We are glad to be hosting a world cup competition in Zell am See this year once again after the successful events of 2007 and 2008. The preparations are in full swing and our team is already training ambitiously. We are determined to surpass our last year's position on rank 14', says Hans Huemer, one of the organizers of HSV Red Bull SALZBURG. Prizes are awarded to the winners in team scoring and individual scoring for men, women, juniors, and masters.
