Management Board of VDI/VDE-IT visit the HeraSol application centre in Hanau
Dr. Werner Wilke and Peter Dorthans, joint Managing Directors of the VDI/VDE-IT, visited the Heraeus headquarters in Hanau and took the opportunity to have a close look at the new HeraSol applications centre. The VDI/VDE-IT assigns research projects on behalf of the German federal government, and is responsible for the R&D funding, technology policy and innovation management for not only four separate governmental ministries, but for the European Union (EU) and various state governments as well. The Management Board of the VDI/VDE-IT was given an extensive tour of the applications centre led by one of our experts in this sector, namely Antonio Trizzino (Product Manager of the Business Unit Photovoltaic, W. C. Heraeus). The centre has been open to both customers and partners of Heraeus since October 2008, and it provides research, development and local technical services on a full industrial scale. In conjunction with further centres in the USA (Philadelphia) and China (Shanghai) Heraeus is now able to satisfy the most diversified of customer demands in every time zone.
Both Managing Directors were impressed by the wealth of knowledge that Heraeus obviously possesses in the field of photovoltaic, and were visibly taken aback by the 350 sq. meter large HeraSol application centre. A particular highlight is the fact at the centre the full processing of a silicon wafer can be traced, from metallization through to the finished solar cell. This and the sheer complexity of the technology served to leave a lasting impression.
During his visit Dr. Werner Wilke was full of admiration for the high level of process complexity, the tailor-made products, and the intelligent solutions which Heraeus offers the world over for use in the most diverse areas of the photovoltaic industry.
