Dr Berliner and Mr slutzker on the last concert in Bulgaria

Dr Berliner and Mr slutzker on the last concert in Bulgaria

An Israeli beginning in Kishinev: A symphonic orchestra, a rock band, video-art and live ballet on one stage.
After successful performances in the United States, Poland, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Israel, another international concert will feature “Bereshit” ("Genesis") by the Israeli composer Dr. Baruch Berliner in the capital of Moldova, Kishinev. This concert will bring together the national symphony orchestra of Moldova, a local rock band, video art and ballet solo performers.
On January 25th, 2018 in the Philharmonic Hall in Kishinev, the symphonic poem “Bereshit” by the Israeli composer Baruch Berliner will be performed, to commemorate the Kishinev pogroms of 1903 and 1905, as well as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The concert will bring together a number of art forms and musical genres: the national symphony orchestra of Moldova will perform a sympho-rock version of “Bereshit” alongside leading rock musicians. On stage, principal dancers from the Kisinhev dance academy will perform under the guidance of choreographer Evgeny Grinich, and video-art pieces will be screened. The event will be hosted by the Moldova National Theatre announcer, Wassily Pawlenko.
The symphonic poem for narrator and orchestra “Bereshit” includes seven central events from the beginning of the Book of Genesis: The first day of creation, the creation of Adam and Eve, the expulsion from the Garden of Eden, Cain and Abel, Noah, the flood, and the Covenant of the Rainbow.
The story of Cain and Abel (the fourth part of the poem) symbolizes a universal struggle that still plagues humanity to this very day. Technologically, humanity has made great advances, and yet, the essential nature of human beings has not changed at all. Conflictual feelings, internal power struggles and the hidden paths of the soul remain as troubled as during the Original Sin, and the time before the flood.
Dr. Baruch Berliner was born in Israel, graduated from a Berlin secondary school, earned a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Zurich. He worked as an actuary in the world leading reinsurance company, Swiss Re. After returning to Israel with his family, he was a senior researcher at the Tel Aviv University, Faculty of Management.
Berliner published two books concerning insurance and financial mathematics, over 70 scientific articles and has been a guest lecturer in 20 universities around the world. He also studied violin under the renowned musician and composer, Eden Partosh. In addition, he studied under the great musician and inspiring creator of the "Excellence through Education" - Program, Nachum Slutzker.

This concert is a co-production of Israel, Moldova and Ukraine.
A movie followed the historical concert of Baruch Berliner’s compositions in Kiev last year, to mark the 75th anniversary of the Babi Yar massacre of 1941. The movie "Tikva" ("Hope"), was screened in Tel Aviv. At that time, the Moldovan ambassador to Israel, Gabriela Moraru, suggested to the producer Nachum Slutzker, CEO of MAPAT association, to arrange the event that will take place in Kishinev on January 25th 2018. This project is joined by the Ukrainian producer Sergei Kruchenko, and the local “JCC KEDEM” organization, under the management of Mrs. Stela Harmelin.

Dr. Berliner began composing in 1968, while writing his doctoral dissertation in mathematics. Since 2002 he has composed two symphonic poems, "Bereshit" ("Creation of the World") for orchestra and narrator and “Avraham” ("Abraham") for orchestra, narrator and a men’s chorus, as well as seven light musical pieces for orchestra.
Together with the music, Berliner wrote about 3,500 poems in Hebrew, German and English. His first volume of poetry, "Humor a la Schmirgelpapier" ("Humor of the Sand Paper") will be available in German on Amazon. In recent years Berliner’s compositions have been performed on central stages around the world.
