An Integrated Approach to Injury and Rehabilitation for Patients With Brian Injuries

Press release from: Thieme Publishers

Stuttgart/New York – Advances in critical care management and a push towards evidence-based treatment guidelines have vastly improved the care physicians provide to patients with brain injuries. In Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Brain, published by Thieme, leading clinicians have come together to layout evidence-based guidelines for effectively managing patients with traumatic brain injuries.

“It is a current and clear reference for the many physicians involved in the care of the patient with brain and spinal cord injury,” states author Dr. Christopher M. Loftus, Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

This concisely written book is a companion volume to Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Spine and takes an integrated approach to injury and rehabilitation that extends beyond the initial surgery. In the first sections of the text, the focus is on the science underlying daily practices as well as acute care and critical care management of the brain injured. The following sections then proceed to thoroughly explore outcomes in addition to socioeconomic issues.

Neurotrauma and Critical Care of the Brain features recommendations by renowned specialists, hundreds of summary tables, and more than 200 illustrations. Guidelines regarding the unique situations of treating children suffering from brain injuries are also available in this book.

The recently released book not only serves as a useful aid for board examination preparation, but also assists in ensuring marked improvement in patient care by neurosurgeons and neurologists as well as physicians working in trauma, critical care, and rehabilitation medicine and residents in these specialties.

“Despite significant advances in survival from severe head and spinal cord injury, there is no miracle drug for treating these patients. Care of these patients depends wholly on applying the best available treatment in the field, upon arrival to the emergency room, in the intensive care unit, the operating room, and finally, throughout their convalescence," states author Dr. Jallo, Department of Neurosurgery, Temple University, Philadelphia, PA.
