Abstract:
In 2015, the value of men's apparel production in the U.S. amounted to $1.6B, moving up by +7.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. men's apparel output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -3.4%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015, when the output figure increased by +7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of men's apparel shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $2.0B in 2008. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the men's apparel production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.
Men's and boys' (including unisex) knit dress and sport shirts (including polo shirts, tank tops, sweatshirts, and t-shirts), made from purchased fabrics accounted for the highest share (19% in 2015) of U.S. men's apparel manufacturing, leaving a considerable room for men's and boys' workpants (excluding jeans), work jackets, coveralls, overalls, jumpsuits, and washable service apparel, including nondisposable hospital patient wear, made from purchased fabrics (18%). The other related products with less notable individual shares together comprised approx. 64% of the total output.
