Press release from: American Sephardi Federation

(Washington, D.C.) November 15, 2017 – On Veterans Day weekend, the Jewish War Veterans of the USA Foundation (JWVF) proudly partnered with the Corps of Cadets and the American Sephardi Federation to host this year’s Jewish Warrior Weekend from November 10th-12th in New York City. Held since the year 2000 at West Point, cadets gathered at the Center for Jewish History for educational programming that will empower them to have strong Jewish identities.

Cadets from West Point, the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, and Texas A&M will conduct Shabbat services, train, and attend talks at the Center for Jewish History by Lieutenant General Howard B. Bromberg (Ret.), the Army’s 46th Deputy Chief of Staff; Colonel Richard Goldenberg, an aviation officer who served in numerous staff and command positions within the Army’s 7th Light Infantry Division and the 10th Mountain Division; and Colonel Jonathan de Sola Mendes, a veteran combat pilot who served in WWII (100 missions; two Air Medals) and Korea (70 missions; 8 Air Medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross), where he flew the last US Marine Corps Mission on 27 July 1953.

“These cadets are the future leaders in the military and Jewish community. They have a natural sense of responsibility and duty, understand the importance of continuing the proud tradition of Jews in the US Armed Forces, and exemplify their connection to Judaism and the Jewish way of life through their service. Jewish Warrior Weekend is a great way to support and strengthen future Jewish veterans,” said Anna Selman, Programs and Public Relations Coordinator for Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A.
“Sephardim have served and sacrificed in every generation on behalf of American liberty since the first stirrings of the War of Independence. From Major Benjamin Nones and Commodore Uriah P. Levy to Colonel Jonathan de Sola Mendes and PFC Daniel J. Agami, the ingenuity, erudition, fortitude, and virtue under fire demonstrated by Sephardi patriots are essential examples for emulation by cadets and, indeed, Americans of all backgrounds. The American Sephardi Federation proudly preserves, promotes, and presses for greater recognition of this rich yet little-know Sephardic legacy as part of the Jewish experience,” says Jason Guberman-P., Executive Director of the American Sephardi Federation.

At the Center for Jewish History, cadets will have the opportunity to tour the Center for Jewish History and Leo Baeck Institute’s “George Salter: A Legacy of Book Design” in the David Berg Rare Boom Room, American Jewish History Society’s “1917: How One Year Changed The world,” the Leo Baeck Institute’s “Becoming ‘German Jews’ in America,” YIVO Institute for Jewish Research’s "Through the Yiddish Looking Glass: The Art of Yiddish Children's Literature," and the American Sephardi Federation’s “Nosotros: Strengthening Bonds between Jewish and Latino Communities.”

Spring in Vienna, royal chaos and a jewish preacher
The project “Royal Chaos” departs from the Gestalt psychological term “supersummativity”, which is, the concept that the total is more than the sum of its parts. Cognition and perception are based on complex relationships that are impossible to explain just by analyzing individual parts. By weaving different layers of images together, the project creates a multi-dimensional experience through moving form and color that allows the pictures to come alive. Thus,
