DIGITUS® Video Matrix Splitter for that Special “Aha” Effect

05-15-2009 10:15 PM CET | IT, New Media & Software

Press release from: Assmann Electronic GmbH

DS-48110

DS-48110

One problem that engineers are often confronted by is sending different video signals to several monitors, be it in advertising engineering, for live events with electronic graphics support or just simply for training or in conferences. DIGITUS® resolves this problem neatly with the cascaded Video Matrix Splitters for four or eight monitors. An in-built booster ensures that a distance of up to 65 m between the video source to the monitors can be covered.

In each case, two selectable inputs (PC) transmit the data to the four or eight monitors with a maximum screen resolution of 1920x1440 pixels at 60Hz. The video bandwidth is 250 MHz. DDC, DDCB and DDC2B are supported.

This means that the Display Data Channel (DDC) is a serial communications interface between the monitor and the PC that allows data exchange over the monitor cable and makes it possible for the operating system to automatically install and configure (plug-and-play) the monitor driver.

The Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) has published the following versions of this industry standard:
DDC1 (Version 1): Continuously repeated transmission of the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) from the monitor to the graphics card. The 128 bytes of the EDID data structure contain information on the VESA standard compatibility and DPMS support.

DDC2B (Version 2 Level B): now also allows the bidirectional transmission of the VESA Display Identification File (VDIF). The monitor can then respond to special queries from the graphics card.

DDC2AB: like DDC2B, but with transmission of even more data for activating and controlling the monitor. To be able to exchange information, both the graphics card as well as the monitor must support this data channel. Technically, a I²C-like interface is often used.

”Selecting and splitting video signals can hardly be more comfortable and professional.”, opines Harald Kintzel, Technical Director at DIGITUS®.

Both the 4-x splitter (DS-48110) as well as the 8-x splitter (DS-49110) are supplied with an AC 7.5V, 800mA power supply and an operating manual in German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Polish and Swedish.

The recommended retail prices are 85,99€ for the DS-48110 and 143,99€ for the DS-49110.
