20th Heimtextil Trends special show

New Trendtable member from Sweden
- Heimtextil Trend Book and presentation now the responsibility of Carlin International

The Heimtextil Trends special show is the creative way to discover the most important and international trends at the beginning of every year, and a first-class orientation aid for product developers, furnishing specialists and designers.

“This year, for the 20th time running, we are inviting product and material designers to harmonise trends and tendencies from all fields of interior design, to break down rigid structures and to generate new ideas with an unequivocal emphasis on the future”, says Detlef Braun, Member of the Board of Management of Messe Frankfurt GmbH.

Every year in the spring, the Trendtable meets for two days in Frankfurt am Main. Then, the Trendtable members close the doors, exchange their trend ideas with each other and, on this basis, develop joint international predictions for the coming season. The creative personalities taking part – they come from Japan, Great Britain, France, The Netherlands, Germany and, for the first time this year, Sweden – presented innumerable illustrations, colours, new materials and textures from all over the world. This year, this huge range of influences will be collated for the first time by Mayouri Sengchanh of Carlin International (France). She is responsible for the conceptual development and design of the Trend Book. The Heimtextil Trends for 2010/11 will be presented at Tendence in Frankfurt am Main on 6 July 2009.

Trendtable enriched by a new member from Sweden
This year, the Heimtextil welcomed a new member to the Trendtable, Maria Olofsson of ColourHouse (Sweden), who brings a Scandinavian influence to the Trendtable’s work. Maria Olofsson has been with the ColourHouse firm of stylists, which was founded in 1981 for three years. She works with design and in the education field, and prepares trend and colour prognoses for the fields of product design and strategic design concepts. She generates new ideas in workshops and in her work as a consultant to various companies.

In addition to Maria Olofsson, five other design studios contributed to the 20th Heimtextil Trends:
This year, Anne-Marie Commandeur and Arie Vervelde of Stijlinstituut Amsterdam (The Netherlands), who were responsible for the 2009 / 10 Trend Book and Trend Presentation, also participated in the creative Trendtable. Anne Marie Commandeur heads a team of designers who specialise in the fields of textile innovations, prognoses, colour trends and strategic design concepts. With Arie Vervelde as Art Director, the Stijlinstituut is a versatile force that ensures fashion companies and fashion-oriented firms are kept posted about the latest developments.

Mayouri Sengchanh manages Exalis together with Dominique Cherpin and represents Carlin International (France), the world’s oldest trend agency, which ranks among the top five of the sector. Carlin provides services relating to style marketing, brand development and consulting, trend scouting, sector-oriented trend books and the individual elaboration of colour and trend worlds in cooperation with customers at special workshops.

Claudia Herke, Cem Bora and Annetta Palmisano of stylists Bora. Herke (Germany) have been developing contemporary trends and identifying and visualising new movements in the fields of fashion, furniture and lifestyle since 1990. With their extraordinary presentations, e.g., for Messe Frankfurt, and outstanding exhibitions for other companies, Bora.Herke have been members of the creative team since the first Heimtextil Trendtable, as have Carlin International and Stijlinstituut Amsterdam.

Dan Namura of Dan Project (Japan) joined the Trendtable last year. The young Japanese designer from Tokyo can trace his origins back to the renowned ‘yuzen’ craft of dyeing and weaving kimono fabrics in Kyoto. Dan Namura designs not only furniture fabrics, bags and garments but also fine textiles and colourful graphic prints.

The Future Laboratory also took part in the Trendtable for the second time and, this year, was represented by Kate Franklin, the Creative Director of the company, which was founded in 2001. The Future Laboratory is one of the most important trendprognosis networks in Europe. With its observers around the world and a team of consumption researchers and trend analysts, it provides qualitative and quantitative insights into future consumer behaviour with respect to products, services and current brand strategies.

From the beginning of July, the Heimtextil Trend Blog will provide regular details of the latest developments in connection with the fair. Firstly, the Blog, which can be found on the Heimtextil trend website at www.heimtextil-trends.com, will report on the Trend presentation on 6 July. Thereafter, it will show how the Trend Book came about and who the creative personalities are behind the Trend Book 2010/11. Several videocasts are planned and they will make the reports even more vivid.

Further information about the fair can be found at www.heimtextil.messefrankfurt.com and, with the focus on the latest trends, at www.heimtextil-trends.com.
