World Health Day 2009 Walk For Health at BITS Pilani

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity says WHO (World Health Organization) established on 7 April 1948.

World Health Day marks the founding of the WHO and is an occasion to raise awareness of key global health issues. The theme chosen for this year is “Save lives. Make hospitals safe in emergencies” to focus attention on the large numbers of lives that can be saved during earthquakes, floods, conflicts and other emergencies through better design and construction of health facilities as well as by preparing and training health staff.

One among the top ranking universities in India today, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science popularly known as BITS has campuses in Pilani Rajasthan, Dubai, Goa and Hyderabad. Recently the National Assessment and Accreditation Council NAAC reaccredited BITS with 3.71 CGPA out of 4 and awarded “A” grade “Very Good” status to BITS.

BITS Pilani has been celebrating World Heath Day for the past several years
It is known that a brisk evening walk has so many health and stress management benefits which include keeping one fit for the day apart from helping one to sleep better at night.

BITS Pilani celebrated the World Health Day by organizing an evening walk on Tuesday April 7, 2009 across the Institute led by the Vice Chancellor Dr LK Maheshwari in which faculty members and spouses, children and students participated.
