Visitors from Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, Switzerland, Italy and France were present at the opening of the Frida Kahlo exhibition “a Ribbon around a Bomb” in Baden-Baden. The exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund, shows 113 Frida Kahlo oil paintings, licensed replicas from © Banco de México Diego Rivera & Frida Kahlo Museums Trust / VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn 2008.

The life and tragedy of Frida Kahlo become real through her work which the visitors can follow from her first self portrait: “Self Portrait in a Velvet Dress” to “The Broken Column” to her last still life “Viva la Vida” finished few days before she died.
Next to each major art work, hangs the dress shown in the painting, enabling the visitors to see the objects in the painting to take life. The famous Tehuana shirts painted by Frida Kahlo are shown next to the corresponding paintings
The dresses have been painstakingly reproduced exactly as the artist has painted them, including one dress of “The Two Fridas”.
In the second section of the exhibition, the atelier of Frida Kahlo has been recreated with époque furniture, mirror, easel and palette with Frida’s favourite colours. The typical Mexican filigree necklaces and earrings, the coral necklaces and silver rings with turquoise and coral stones Frida used to wear, are also part of the exhibition.

The 113 paintings revolve around a Mexican courtyard reconstructed in the middle of the museum to give the impression of Frida Kahlo Casa Azul own garden with its Aztec pyramid, pre-columbian figures, 78 cactus plants and a fountain with a 3 mt high water jet.

The Frida Kahlo exhibition “a Ribbon around a Bomb” in the Kustmuseum Gehrke-Remund in Baden Baden, Germany is a permanent exhibition.

The Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund is a privately owned art museum dedicated to showing monographic works.
The Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund exihibits at least 70% of the works of one artist only at the time, The objective of the Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund is to offer the visitors a complete view of the entire work of one artist, in this way it is possible to follow the artist’s development, to discover the different phases the painter goes through in his/her life: from lack of direction to new inspiration.

The Vision of the Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund is to offer the visitors a cultural experience that covers all the senses, and an environment that touches not only the eyes of the visitors, but their minds, and above all their hearts.
Every decision made in the creation of the museum was driven by two elements:
- respect for the visitors, and
- respect for the artists.

In addition to exhibiting the artworks, the Kunstmuseum Gehrke-Remund shows the environment of the life of the painter: clothes, jewelry, and the entire context in which the artist lived and produced his/her paintings. This 360°view of the llife and work of one artist allows the visitors to immerse themselves totally into the artworks and to better understand the artist.

The founders of the Art Museum are Hans-Jürgen Gehrke and Dr. Mariella C. Remund. Both are art patrons, collectors, and passionate art historians. Both have spent over 25 years in executive positions in multinational corporations and academic organizations in Germany, Italy, France, Switzerland, USA, Spain, South America and China.
