Live Green with Renewable Energy

Live Green with Renewable Energy

In a region like sub-Saharan Africa where, 600 million people lack access to electricity, clean renewable energy has the potential to greatly boost the quality of life, economic development as well as environmental sustainability. Various developing nations are investing in renewable energy. Global investment in renewable has hit $285.9 billion in 2015, but more remains to be done to satisfy the needs of the ever growing population.

Kenya with its robust support framework has a significant potential to become a hub for renewable in the Africa region. While energy affordability is becoming an increasingly major political issue, the emerging markets are becoming increasingly alluring to renewable energy investors looking for stable policy environments. Despite Kenya’s power sector growing consistently, power sector of the country is facing several hindrances in fulfilling the power generation needs which in turn is impacting the country's economy and investing opportunities for other countries.
According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), almost one billion Africans will gain access to electricity by 2040. In its first Africa Energy Outlook, the IEA said grid-linked power generation was set to quadruple between 2020 and 2040, but noted that was from a low base of 90 gigawatts (GW) today.

“Solar is cost effective right now. When you consider the cost to our health from air pollution, solar is just as competitive as any other energy source.” – Thomas P. Kay
