Abstract:
In 2015, the value of rolled steel shape production in the U.S. amounted to $7.6B, waning by -6.9% against the previous year level. Overall, the U.S. rolled steel shape output pursued a moderate decline from 2007 to 2015. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -0.4%. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +51% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the total value of rolled steel shape shipments in the United States attained its maximum level of $8.9B in 2011. Afterwards, the growth in terms of the rolled steel shape production failed to regain its strength through to 2015.

Cold rolled steel sheet and strip, made from purchased steel was the major product category in the U.S. rolled steel shape manufacturing, with a share in total output standing near 66% in 2015. Cold finished steel bars and bar shapes, made from purchased steel lagged far behing, accounting for only the 18% share. The other related products together comprised approx. 16% of the total output.
