Abstract
Global carrot and turnip market revenue amounted to 18,738 million USD in 2015, moving up by +1.1% against the previous year level. Overall, global carrot and turnip market continues to undergo a significant growth: the market value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the market revenue increased by +31% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global carrot and turnip market attained its maximum revenue of 19,422 million USD in 2013. From 2014 to the end of the period under review, the total carrot and turnip market revenue failed to regain its former peak level.

Over the analyzed period, an increase in global carrot and turnip production was primarily driven by growth of population. Furthermore, these key drivers are expected to continue promoting the carrot and turnip output in the immediate term. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The world carrot and turnip harvested area amounted to 1,459 thousand ha in 2015, which was 6.5% more than the previous year figure. The harvested area indicated a noticeable increase over the period under review, representing a compound annual growth rate of +3.2% from 2007 to 2015. This trend pattern, however, indicated some mild fluctuations over the recent years. Over the period under review, the total carrot and turnip harvested area peaked in 2015, and is likely to continue its expansion in the immediate term, following rising demand for carrot and turnip globally.

The global average carrot and turnip yield amounted to 273 thousand hg/ha in 2015, falling by -3.8% from the previous year figure. The yield figures recorded an upward trend over the period under review, with a compound annual growth rate standing at +0.5% from 2007 to 2015. These yield figures maintained, all in all, a stable trend pattern throughout the analyzed period. The highest carrot and turnip yields were recorded in 2012, when it peaked at 312 thousand hg/ha. Afterwards, it decreased slightly and then fluctuated around these levels throughout the analyzed period.
