ATLANTA, GEORGIA - American Megatrends (AMI) is pleased to announce that its AMIBIOS®8 & Aptio®4.x products feature support for the recently expanded Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series with Intel® System Controller Hub US15WP and USW15PT.

AMIBIOS8 & Aptio 4.x from AMI support the complete range of Intel® Atom™ processor Z5xx series (Z530, Z510, Z530P, Z520PT, Z510P and Z510PT), using the Intel Atom micro-architecture and Intel® 45nm high-k silicon technology for improved power consumption.

The expanded, even more robust Intel Atom processor Z5xx series is targeted at temperature-sensitive applications in a wide range of form factors. Intel Atom processor Z5xx series can be found in such diverse applications as outdoor kiosks and point-of-sale stations, in-vehicle infotainment systems suitable for all climate zones, and industrial automation and control applications for use in demanding thermal environments.

S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends, offered this comment: “As a long-standing member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance, we are proud to announce our continued support for the expanded Intel Atom processor series. The growth of the Intel Atom lineup enables even greater adoption of firmware solutions, using both traditional BIOS and UEFI implementations for the Intel Atom series. AMI remains committed to market leadership in the embedded computing space and to ensuring that our AMIBIOS and Aptio offerings satisfy the most rigorous demands of this rapidly growing market segment.”

“Intel now offers Atom with an industrial temperature range from minus 40° to 85° C for embedded applications,” said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. “This allows embedded customers to use firmware solutions in new, low-power designs used in a variety of climates and unconstrained thermal environments.”

AMIBIOS8 is built around Visual eBIOS (VeB), the innovative development environment designed specifically for BIOS porting. VeB was released with the original AMIBIOS8 in 2001 and continues to simplify BIOS development worldwide by removing barriers normally associated with BIOS development in the command line environment. Aptio builds on that experience, providing next- generation BIOS firmware based on Unified EFI (UEFI) and the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI.

AMIBIOS8 & Aptio 4.x evaluation BIOS for Intel Customer Reference Boards are available now. Interested parties are encouraged to contact AMI’s Software Sales Department for details.
