Alejandra Mantiñán and Gregorio Garrido

Villa La Rogaia, one of the most renommated organizers of tango travels and tango holidays 2009 celebrates its tenth anniversary with a real fireworks display of internationally renowned Argentine Tango stars. One of the best known and most sought after of them is without doubt Alejandra Mantiñán.
Alejandra Mantiñán is a musical, technical and elegant dancer, she shines with her own light each time she gets up on a stage or in a Milonga. She is one of the teachers most in demand worldwide, yet she stays away from the blaze of vanities tango usually turns into. National dance teacher at the age of 18, she studied classic and contemporary dance, and also physiology before devoting herself exclusively to tango 16 years ago. As the assistant of Antonio Todaro, she spent years delving into the secrets of the dance of Buenos Aires. She danced for 14 years with Gustavo Russo, with whom she participated in the Tango Pasión show and performed with the orchestras of Osvaldo Pugliese, Horacio Salgán, Mariano Mores and José Basso.
When teaching she draws on simple things: how does a dog or cat move, how do a gorilla and a man stand up, what is it that we do when we dry our feet in the bathroom so that we don’t fall, etc. She likes to show why something works and why it would not work in any other way. “It seems to me that when one embraces someone one has to have the capacity to say a lot of things without speaking. “
Alejandra will teach this class at La Rogaia together with Gregorio Garrido who began dancing tango early in his teen ages in Santiago, Chile. Later on he continuied with various Argentinean teachers in Buenos Aires. His way of dancing remarks itself with a unique sense of dynamics, understanding of rhythm, agility and presence.

In Aristophanes’ comedy “The Birds,” an imaginary city built in the clouds by birds at the instigation of two Athenians represented both a fantastic caricature of Athens in the poet's day and a sort of Philistine Utopia: full of gross enjoyments, hence, in literary allusion, cloudland- “fools' paradise”. A fools paradise in the clouds- is that where we’re going when we search the clouds for familiar objects? This action, coined precisely
