‘Heartstring Bikini Martini’ to Bring Awareness to American Heart Association’s ‘Wear Red Day’

02-02-2009 02:20 PM CET | Associations & Organizations

Press release from: Bar Mechanics

Women all over the country will be wearing red on Friday, February 6 to raise awareness that heart disease is the leading cause of death in females in the United States. That same day in selected Southwest Florida restaurants and lounges, many of those ladies wearing red will be raising martini glasses and raising money for the local chapter of the American Heart Association.

The Heartstring Bikini Martini, along with its non-alcoholic counterpart the ‘Tini Red Bikini’ ‘mocktail’, will be introduced in February at well over two dozen sponsor locations stretching across Lee and Collier Counties. Purchase of the cocktail at participating restaurants will include a donation and everyone that orders the delicious pomegranate cocktail will receive a ‘Red Dress’ pin. The red dress symbolizes the Go Red For Women™ effort that is nationally sponsored by Macy’s and Merck.

The Heartstring Bikini Martini was created for the local chapter of the American Heart Association by Larry ‘Smokey’ Genta the award-winning cocktail designer of Bar Mechanics™; the Fort Myers based Hospitality Consultants. Genta has designed cocktails for spirit companies, area restaurants, and for various charity concerns including the local Susan G. Komen affiliate. Most recently Genta was the Managing Director of Blu Sushi and is known for his creative and popular ‘outrageous cocktails’.

“We were surprised by the staggering statistics, and wanted to get people out to paint the town red,” said Genta, who wears one of the red dress pins to show support. The cocktail debuted last September when the local Lee and Collier Heart Association representatives announced the merging of the two annual county Heart Ball events. The first Southwest Florida Heart Ball will be held on April 25, 2009 at the Hyatt Coconut Point Resort.

Bar Mechanics and the American Heart Association have contacted and connected exclusive locations that will proudly feature the cocktail that contains Pearl™ Pomegranate Vodka, along with hints of the juicy fruit flavor of Monin™ Pomegranate and Strawberry syrups. On Friday, February 6, Genta and his team will be out making stops to mix up the cocktails and visiting locations that will be having ‘Wear Red’ luncheons, ‘All Red Happy Hour Parties’ and even a late night ‘Wear Red’ VIP event at a downtown nightclub.

“We all have been and will be faced with heart disease disrupting and shortening the lives of our families,” said Genta. “On Friday, February 6, ladies will be wearing red, sipping pretty, and enjoying healthy selections at great restaurants that have their community in mind. It’s a way for everyone to become aware, support the sponsors, and a great way to celebrate life.“

Locations that will serve the Heart String Bikini Martini and the ‘Tini Red Bikini’ are being added and will be updated at the website www.CocktailsGoRed.com .
