Unlike traditional pumps, these parts are contained in a single case without any tubing. The device is directly worn on the body using an adhesive patch. The activation of the patch is programmed from a remote device and the cannula is inserted automatically.
Basal insulin comprises of a majority of a person’s daily insulin requirement. It offsets the liver’s glucose secretion into the bloodstream. Every few minutes, the pancreas, in response to the liver’s secretion of glucose, secretes a small amount of insulin in the bloodstream which is known as basal insulin. Before a person develops diabetes, pancreas regularly produce insulin proportionate to the amount of glucose present in the bloodstream. When there is a large amount of blood glucose in the body, such as after meals, the pancreas secret larger amounts of insulin known as bolus insulin. Using patch pumps, the rate of insulin delivery can be adjusted in response to the liver’s pattern of glucose secretion.

This number is expected to reach up to 642 million by 2040.By 2040, 1 in 10 adults will have diabetes.
