KUKA robots also speak Chinese

District Government of Swabia takes its Chinese guests on a tour of KUKA College

Augsburg/Germany, March 2006 – When the District Government of Swabia received high-ranking visitors from China, it wanted to offer them something out of the ordinary. Lin Huayong, Deputy Mayor of Taian City in Shandong Province, accompanied by a party of senior officials from the departments of Foreign and Economic Affairs, came on a fact-finding mission about Swabia as a business location, together with District President Ludwig Schmid. During their visit, the delegation also toured KUKA College, the training center of KUKA Roboter GmbH in Gersthofen.

The guests were highly impressed on entering the state-of-the-art facilities of KUKA College in the Hery Park in Gersthofen. Klaus Petter, Product & Sales Manager at KUKA College, gave detailed explanations of the different robotic cells and technologies. The visitors, in turn, showed great interest in the excellent facilities of the training center.

The deputy mayor and his staff were particularly happy to learn that KUKA robots can apparently also speak Chinese, as Klaus Petter demonstrated with the KUKA Graphical User Interface (GUI) in his guests' own language. This Windows-based user interface enables users in China to operate the robot without any communication problems.

And a robot that speaks your language is evidently one you can trust, for Lin Huayong then teamed up with District President Ludwig Schmid to brave a ride on the KUKA Robocoaster, the world's only passenger-carrying robot.

The visit took place under the auspices of the partnership, signed in 1997, between Bavaria and the Shandong Province. The goal of this partnership is to strengthen the political, cultural and economic ties between the two regions.
