EBS Alumni to grant scholarships to 13 high-achievers from

Oestrich-Winkel, 15 December 2008 --- eXebs-EBS Alumni, the European Business School’s (EBS) official alumni association, is pleased to announce the selection of 13 high-calibre students from top universities in China, Singapore, Thailand, Argentina, Mexico and South-Africa for its signature scholarships, the “eXebs Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship supported by DAAD”, the “eXebs-Greenhill Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship supported by DAAD – where unique talent meets unique banking”, and the Flashbay EBS Alumni China Scholarship. All scholars will be honored during a public ceremony on 31 January 2009, 1-2 pm at the Klaus-Evards-Library on the EBS Campus.

Led by the EBS Alumni International Scholarships Committee and the trailblazing EBS Alumni China Office in Beijing, the scholarships are for people from the global south with a record of academic achievement, visionary thinking and social conscience. Scholars will attend courses at EBS from January to May 2009. Prior to joining EBS, recipients had often snapped up prestigious scholarships or national awards in their home countries. The 2009 intake also includes a former staffer with the Beijing Organizing Committee of the XXIX Olympic Games.

“At times when we see a declining number of international students coming to Germany, EBS Alumni, the German Academic Exchange Service, Greenhill & Co. and Flashbay Ltd have mobilized significant resources and funding to attract next-generation leaders to the European Business School. Our commitment to globalization in education is unwavering, and so is our passion for providing the international scholarship holders with an environment conducive to learning and personal growth” said Dominik F. Schlossstein, EBS Alumni Director International Relations.

Through a competitive process, students from Zhejiang University, Peking University, National University of Singapore, Singapore Management University, Asian Institute of Technology in Bangkok, Universidad Panamericana Campus Bonaterra, Universidad Argentina De La Empresa (U.A.D.E.) and Stellenbosch University were selected.

A non-profit and tax-exempt association under German civil law, EBS Alumni is the official alumni club of the European Business School International University (EBS, www.ebs.edu), one of Germany's foremost business schools. The alumni provide more than 200,000 Euro (300,000 USD) per year in student scholarships and organize high-profile seminars, regular member-only sessions and debates. Since inception in 1980, alumni donations to EBS have totaled 10 million USD. Drawing on research by the recently established EBS Alumni Institute, EBS Alumni has also developed into an important advocate for globalization of teaching, research and life-long learning in Germany and beyond.
