eXebs – the alumni organization of the European Business School (EBS), has just turned a page in the history of educational giving. By raising almost USD 200,000 (EUR 127,000) through a combination of philanthropy, matching funds by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and membership dues, eXebs is now uniquely positioned to provide merit-based scholarships and improve the learning outcomes of international students on campus. This comes on top of well-established eXebs programs targeting German students.

“This is a boon to our organization. Long before others eXebs has always believed in the myriad ways in which international students enrich our campus experience. As globalization and technological change continue to re-shape the world, we need these individuals and their expertise in refining our programs to a level commensu-rate with the school’s vision of developing leaders. Our greatest thanks are due to the many private donors, Greenhill and DAAD who believe in EBS, its unique legacy and vision.” says eXebs Chairman Martin Hess (class of 2003).

The two unparalleled scholarship lines are dedicated to the memory of eXebs’ founder Friedrich J. Schoening who passed away under tragic circumstances in 2006. The “eXebs Friedrich J. Schoening International Schol-arship supported by DAAD” and the “eXebs-Greenhill Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship sup-ported by DAAD” is for people from developing countries who share his unique blend of management skill, vi-sionary thinking and social conscience. Both scholarships are administered by eXebs and carry a monthly sti-pend of EUR 250.

Philip Meyer-Horn, Managing Director of the international investment bank Greenhill & Co., Inc., was amongst the first who subscribed to the new eXebs matching funds scheme. “With the increasing weight of emerging markets in the global economy, Greenhill & Co.’s need for excellent people from these regions is growing fast. We see the “eXebs-Greenhill Friedrich J. Schoening International Scholarship supported by DAAD” as a unique means to support talented students from these regions and supporting them in studying at EBS which we con-sider one of the preeminent business schools in Germany”.

“Almost 90% of the 127,000 Euro will go to about 25 scholarships per year; the remainder will flow to thematic workshops, satisfaction surveys and publications for international students over the next three years”, states project manager Dominik F. Schlossstein. All together these new offerings shore up EBS’ potential to attract in-ternational top students with the greatest ability to shape tomorrow’s world. Responsible member of the board is Vice Chairman Sven Kleinknecht.
