In plastics processing, environmental awareness, but also economic considerations, have resulted in the use of industry-quality granulate (regenerated material, ground material) which frequently shows a slight contamination with foreign objects such as e.g. metal particles. Depending on the production system this may soon cause unwanted machine downtimes.

Especially for the plastics industry S+S now offers a system combination that combines the advantages of magnet separators and inductive metal separators. This combination is the optimal solution for the separation of both magnetic and non-magnetic metal contaminations.

The combination of SAFEMAG and PROTECTOR prevents mould damage, reduces reject rates, and thus increases machine running times. The loss of good material also is reduced to a minimum.

In the first stage the SAFEMAG with the extremely high forces of its neodymium magnet material even removes iron powder and slightly magnetized stainless steel particles from the product flow. It thus reduces the response frequency of the PROTECTOR and consequently also the loss of good material. Downstream of the SAFEMAG, the PROTECTOR reliably detects all the remaining non-magnetic metals.

S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH of Schönberg, Bavaria, manufactures machines and systems for the detection/separation of contaminants, for product inspection, and for the sorting of material flows. Product sales primarily focus on the food, plastics, chemical, pharmaceutical, wood, textile, and recycling industries. S+S is one of the world’s leading suppliers with subsidiaries in Great Britain, China, Singapore, France, and in the USA, a representative office in India, and more than 40 agencies all over the world. The main factory in Schönberg presently employs 230 people, and 2007 turnover amounted to Euro 22 million.

NPE 2009 Preview
S+S Inspection will be unveiling an important new product for the plastics recycling industry on Booth 4035 in the South Hall at NPE 2009 in Chicago. Although the new machine will stay under wraps until 22nd June, it will change the face of plastics recycling technology using new, innovative technology. In addition, S+S will be showing the latest Safemag/Protector configuration which promises to minimize molding machine downtime by removing magnetic
New addition to the S+S magnet family
At the K 2007 plastics trade fair, hall 10, stand E60, S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH will launch a new member of the magnet family, the SAFEMAG. The SAFEMAG system has been developed in close cooperation with customers from the plastics industry. The requirement is for an especially narrow but sturdy design that takes into consideration the limited available space in the direct vicinity of processing machines. With a
