StorTrends iTX Data Storage Software a Key Component of New Secure Managed Client (SMC) Solution from Lenovo
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - American Megatrends (AMI) is pleased to announce that its StorTrends iTX(R) Data Storage Software is featured as a key component of the new Secure Managed Client (SMC) solution from Lenovo, a new paradigm in client computing. The Secure Managed Client utilizes diskless Lenovo ThinkCentre(R) desktop computer hardware linked to a storage server providing consolidated data storage and OS and application hosting for clients, and is ideal for enterprises and institutions looking for data security, reliability and simple and consolidated management of desktop systems. In this groundbreaking new model, the client workstation’s operating system (OS), application software, and data storage resides on an IP-SAN storage appliance called a Lenovo Storage Array. A modified version of AMI’s StorTrends iTX software powers the Intel(R) Storage Server SSR212MC2 IP-SAN hardware operating as the Lenovo Storage Array.
“AMI is very pleased to be a part of this solution, which is at the forefront of client computing,” said S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends. “Organizations that adopt this new paradigm from Lenovo can have absolute confidence in the strength of our StorTrends iTX data management software that underpins this solution.”
A number of key technologies in StorTrends iTX provide noticeable enhancements to the innovative Lenovo SMC client model. First among these is support for Virtual Boot volumes, which are created from one “Golden Boot” OS Volume via iSCSI. This feature allows for ease of management and greatly simplifies OS and other upgrades to multiple systems, since changes only need to be made in a single volume on the Lenovo Storage Array and then pushed to all clients in the system. Tied together with Virtual Boot support is the Boot Acceleration feature of StorTrends iTX, which enables simultaneous fast boots of multiple clients at peak system startup and usage times.
“The contribution of the AMI team was instrumental in helping us refine the storage component that underpins the SMC platform. Lenovo is very pleased with AMI’s responsiveness and collaboration, and looks forward to continued shared success as part of our partnership,” said Goran Wibran, Director Software Solutions of Lenovo.
