Prolight + Sound 2009 distinguished by continuous growth
Interest in Prolight + Sound 2009 running at a high level
With five months to go before the start of the international Prolight + Sound trade fair in Frankfurt am Main from 1 to 4 April 2009, the organisers can already report an unbroken flow of inquiries from companies wanting to take part. The coming Prolight + Sound will be the last to be held in the usual exhibition halls. Thanks to the completion of the new Hall 11, the fair will have a new look from 2010. Today, 95 percent of the exhibition space available is already booked, which means that companies interested in taking part should act quickly to ensure they can use Prolight + Sound as their inter¬national marketing platform.
"The large number of bookings already received for Prolight + Sound 2009 gives us great confidence that we will be able to cater for more exhibitor wishes and inquiries in 2010 and thus ensure the continued expansion of Prolight + Sound in the future, too", says Jürgen Kupczik, Prolight + Sound Director. "The sector has given a very warm welcome to the stronger focus of Prolight + Sound on audio, lighting and stage technology, as well as to the independent exhibition area. The flood of inquiries from potential exhibitors shows that our links to the sector are very good and that we react proactively to its needs."
There will be several new features at Prolight + Sound in 2009. Thus, the Media Systems Congress, the biggest information event at the fair, will be supplemented by a manufacturer's forum at which manufacturers and service providers will be able to present their products and solutions to an audience of trade visitors interested in these topics. On Saturday, ALMA – International Loudspeaker Association – will use the congress to discuss the latest research and development results from the field of loudspeaker manufacturing, research, design and acoustics.
ProStage and the Concert Sound Arena demonstrate professional stage planning and concert PA systems under realistic conditions and are the venue of workshops for experts from the sector.
Prolight + Sound is also an important meeting place for the sector. "Meyer Sound considers Prolight + Sound to be one of the premier events in the professional audio trade show calendar and we will once again be supporting the show in 2009", says David Wiggins, Marketing Director of Meyer Sound. "We have witnessed the evolution of Prolight + Sound from a principally European event to one that attracts visitors from all over the world, a factor which is of great benefit to us as a global company. We also feel that the division of the show from Musikmesse has allowed us to focus more on our target professional markets", adds Wiggins.
In 2009, young German companies will once again have the opportunity to present their products at the joint stand of the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft und Ausfuhrkontrolle – BAFA), which sponsors the participation of these innovative companies in the fair and thus helps them bring the attention of an international audience to their innovations.
Together, the Prolight + Sound trade fair and the integrated Media Systems Prolight + Sound make up the world's biggest international trade fair for audio, lighting, event and communication technology. At the last event in March 2008, 873 exhibitors from 42 countries presented their products and services in Frankfurt am Main to around 31,200 visitors from the fields of audio and studio technology, lighting design, event planning and organisation. In view of the large number of bookings already received, Messe Frankfurt, the organisers of Prolight + Sound, are confident of being able to increase the outstanding exhibitor and visitor figures in 2009.

"For us, Prolight + Sound is the leading event for LED technology, a sector that still has a great potential for growth. As specialists for large-screen LED technology, we can be sure of encountering our target group at Prolight + Sound. As the venue for media solutions, Prolight + Sound is exactly the right place to exhibit our high-grade solutions for planners, architects and dealers in vivid presentations and demonstrations.
Mitsubishi Electric Europe B.V., German Branch, Lars Doerholt - Marketing Manager VIS
"The significance of Prolight + Sound for Klotz A.I.S. is shown by the fact that we have been exhibiting here for almost 30 years. This con¬tinuity is an important feature of our successful business develop¬ment. Over many years, the fair has developed into an important platform for making and cultivating international business contacts. Thus, in addition to launching our latest products, we also focus on gaining new customers. Frankfurt is an ideal venue for this thanks to a high degree of acceptance by international customers, especially those from Eastern Europe and Asia. 80 percent of our sales are generated outside Germany whereby the proportion going to Asian nations is growing steadily. We are looking forward to a successful Prolight + Sound 2009."
Klotz Audio Interface Systems A.I.S. GmbH, Peter Klotz - Member of the Board of Management.
"We will be back again for Prolight + Sound 2009. Two important reasons for our participation in the fair are the high degree of internationality on the visitor side and the large number of professional co-exhibitors. The sheer scale of the fair always guarantees a multitude of important contacts."
Schnakenberg Unternehmensgruppe, Robert Lambertz - General Manager, Bühnenbau Schnakenberg GmbH & Co. KG
"At Prolight + Sound in Frankfurt, one can always be sure that the lighting and sound segments will be extremely well represented. Evidence of this is to be seen in the growing national and inter¬national interest through which the fair has become a well-established event for the entire sector. Thus, Prolight + Sound is an absolute must for us."
Lightpower, Christian Schulte - General Manager
“Prolight+Sound is the trade fair in the entertainment sector that attracts the highest number of visitors coming from countries with emergent markets, as well as the most important European players.
We believe Prolight+Sound is a unique opportunity to strengthen the presence of SSE and its portfolio of brands that includes Litec, Tomcat Europe, IFF Advanced Rigging and Manfrotto Entertainment.
Besides taking part in this relevant show, in 2009 SSE wishes to be more present in the territory and have a more direct contact with customers”.
Staging Systems Europe, Paolo Dozzo - Sales Director
"Prolight + Sound is, naturally, an obligatory event for us. We have been coming here for many years and use the fair as a platform to present our new products to a wide-ranging international audience of specialists and to cultivate our good contacts to customers and sales partners. Another interesting aspect for us is the broad spectrum of visitors to the fair – dealers, distributors, artists, DJs – which means it's hardly possible to get closer to the market."
Shure Europe GmbH, Markus Winkler – General Manager
"D.A.S. has been exhibiting its products at Prolight + Sound for many years. We always take advantage of the internationality of the fair to present our new products to the trade and have continuously in¬creased our activities at the fair in line with the expansion of our product range. Thus, Prolight + Sound is the right place to meet the whole sector in its entirety. And this is an important benefit that a fair must be able to provide."
D.A.S., Roberto Giner - Marketing Director

The sound of old music
In addition to their shape, the material that brass instruments are made of determines their sound. This was demonstrated by acousticians in a project funded by the Austrian Science Fund FWF on reconstructing the sound of historical trombones. The trombone probably saw the light of day in the 15th century. Over the centuries, this brass instrument has undergone significant changes both in its shape and its sound. The early or
