NoMachine NX Supports Non-Profit's Successful Switch to Linux

NoMachine NX provides Mosaic remote access at a low cost and to meet HIPAA requirements

Rome, Italy, Nov. 5, 2008 – NoMachine, creator of NX remote access and application delivery software, is helping the US non-profit, charity organization, Mosaic, convert to a Linux-based thin client infrastructure. Mosaic's conversion is just one example of a movement by the non-profit industry away from Windows toward Open Source, Linux-based solutions. The benefits experienced are savings, security, performance, and manageability.

Mosaic's commitment to sound fiscal stewardship was a major reason behind their conversion to Linux, an Open Source operating system providing a secure environment with a considerably lower Total Cost of Ownership than comparable proprietary solutions. A switch to Linux can bring cost-savings, reduce dependency on those individual software applications, and allows organizations to meet requirements in accommodating all levels of users and ensuring a secure exchange of information.

NoMachine NX was a vital part of this switch for Mosaic providing over 40 offices and more than 5,000 employees spread over 14 states with remote access to critical applications on their centralized Linux servers. Administrators are also able to reduce their work time by centrally managing software from the server, instead of on each PC or thin client. NoMachine NX allowed Mosaic to re-utilize their existing PCs to run as thin client terminals, thus reducing hardware costs, and easing the transition from proprietary software to Linux.

In addition to reducing hardware costs, NoMachine NX was a solution that met the privacy standards of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This is a very important feature for non-profits in the health sector, such as Mosaic. NX guarantees the privacy of health information across a network, ensuring that all data is kept private. Because NX uses the SSH public-key encryption, data traffic between the client and server is tunneled through a secure SSH channel.

To date, Mosaic has migrated 17 of their 40 offices in six states to Linux with the NX solution, accounting for approximately 400 total users. Their next phase of migration with NX will markedly increase that number to more than 1,500 users with further expansion to other states by completion in 2009.
