Press release from: Vocal Ltd

On Wednesday 8th October, Sheffield City Council and South Yorkshire Police, in association with Vocal Ltd, are holding a free event at Sheffield Ponds Forge to promote ‘Warn and Inform Sheffield’ Scheme for businesses within the city.

Warn and Inform Sheffield is an upgrade of the existing Sheffield Alert Scheme which was launched in July 2004 and allows business subscribers to receive vital information direct from the Police in the event of emergency incidents such as terrorism, flooding, gas explosions, severe weather, protest demonstrations or incidents affecting the transport network. Warn and Inform subscribers can receive the message via a variety of methods including SMS mobile text message, pager or email.

The event, to be held from 1:30pm until 3:30pm on Wednesday 8th October, will promote the importance of Emergency Planning and Business Continuity within Sheffield and there will be guest speakers including representatives from South Yorkshire Police, Sheffield City Council’s Emergency Planning Team and Vocal Ltd; the providers of Warn and Inform Sheffield who will specifically outline the upgrade improvements.

Cllr Bob McCann, Cabinet Member for Housing and Sustainable Safer Communities from Sheffield City Council said:
"I think it's very important that local businesses get themselves registered onto the Sheffield alert scheme. Businesses need to be able to make their own decisions about how to best continue and protect their business in the light of any major incident, and having direct information from the Police straight to a mobile phone or by email, helps them to do just this and ensure business continuity. It's good sense for local businesses to sign up for the scheme."

Ben Howard, Marketing Manager at Vocal added:
“iModus, the technology behind the Warn and Inform Sheffield won ‘Most Innovative Product of the Year’ at the 2008 CIR Business Continuity Awards and at this event we’ll be outlining the added benefits of the upgraded system. This includes a brand new secure online forum where Sheffield businesses can share Business Continuity information and best practice with each other.”

Spaces at the event are limited and are on first come, first served basis so if you are a business within Sheffield and would like to attend please visit http://www.warnandinform.com/sheffield/upgradeevent to register your details.

This event is organised by Sheffiled City Council and South Yorkshire Police in assocation with Vocal Ltd.
