Germany Table Blender Standard Updated

04-05-2017 02:21 PM CET | Business, Economy, Finances, Banking & Insurance

Press release from: SGS

/ PR Agency: Sugarloaf Marketing

The German National Technology Safety Center (ZLS) has published Decision EK1 646-16, modifying the safety requirements for table blenders. The update, approved as category B, modifies parts of clause 20.2 in EN 60335-2-14, a standard dealing with the safety of domestic electric kitchen machines, such as food mixers, electric knives and blenders.

The updates contained within EK 1 646-16 relate to table blenders and include:

• Modification to third paragraph in clause 20.2 in EN 60335-2-14
• Deletion of the following paragraph from clause 20.2:
“For blenders, detachable parts, except lids, are not removed. The test is carried out with a test probe similar to that of the test probe B of IEC 61032 but having a circular stop face with a diameter of 125mm instead of the non-circular face, the distance between the tip of the test finger and the stop face being 100mm.”
• Clarification that clause 22.112, relating to the stopping time of blades when lid is opened or removed, applies to blenders
• Clarification that clause 22.113 (concerning interlocks) applies to blenders
• Clarification that clause 22.114 (concerning detachable parts removed) applies to blenders

Manufacturers should remain aware that these changes relate to the whole product category and not just to the described product.

EK 1 646-16 was published on January 25, 2017, with immediate effect. Stakeholders should be aware that products currently undergoing GS certification, and test projects, will already need to comply with the changes. Products which are currently GS certified must comply with the new standard by July 24, 2017, or have their GS certification cancelled.
