Electro surgery devices have been widely used in various procedures globally. Patients prefer non-invasive or minimally invasive surgeries over open surgeries due to various advantages such as quick recovery, less pain and lesser chances of cross infection. Currently four types of electrosurgery devices are used ? monopolar, bipolar, ultrasonic and hybrid devices.

Monopolar technology involves a complete circuit consisting of generator, electrodes, grounding plate (return electrode), and patient. Bipolar devices involve forceps electrodes which act as electrode as well as a return electrode. It is observed that risk of thermal injuries is lower in bipolar devices. Hence bipolar electrosurgery devices are preferred as compared to monopolar electrosurgery devices. Ultrasonic electrosurgery devices are also found effective in tissue sealing and ligation, however higher cost restricts its wide spread adoption. Companies have also introduced hybrid electrosurgery devices that combine two electrosurgery technologies. These technological advances have introduced new products that are more efficient; thus fueling the overall electrosurgery devices market growth.

Increasing adoption of minimally invasive surgeries has replaced conventional open surgeries in certain surgery types. Cholecystectomy procedures for example are mostly preformed laparoscopically. Various surgical procedures including hysterectomy, appendicectomy, and cancer among others are also performed laparoscopically. Increasing expertise among surgeons on minimally invasive surgeries and expanding scope of applications has been assisting rapid adoption. Lesser bleeding, shorter operating time and lower cost are other advantages supporting electrosurgery devices market growth.

In U.K. 0.35 million new cancer cases were recorded according to Cancer Research U.K. Globally more than 8 million patients die due to cancer. Such higher disease prevalence would result in more numbers of surgical procedures in the future, thus potential driving electrosurgery devices market growth.
